Malawi: mob kill 7 people suspected of human parts trade

A mob burned seven people suspected of trafficking human bones, often used in witchcraft in the Nsanje district of southern Malawi.

Even though the incident happened in broad day light on Tuesday, Malawian Police received information of the act on Wednesday.

The victims “were found in possession of human bones and the crowd decided to burn them with gasoline,” said Kirdy Kaunga, a police official.

It would be recalled that the mutilated body of Eunice Phiri, a woman aged 53 with albinism, was discovered on January 28 in the Kasungu National Park. Her arms had been cut.

Ritual killings of albino people are a common practice in Malawi. They are killed and their body parts are sold to be used for witchcraft rituals.
